The Mets have claimed pitcher Anthony Kay off waivers from the Chicago Cubs.
Fantasy Impact
It's a full-circle move for Key as he was drafted by the Mets in the first round of the 2016 MLB draft before being traded to the Blue Jays in the R.A. Dickey deal. The left-hander has largely struggled in the big leagues with a career 5.60 ERA across 41 appearances (seven starts) spanning only 82 innings of work.
Anthony Kay earned the win Thursday after holding the Orioles scoreless across five innings. He allowed five hits and a pair of walks while striking out eight.
Fantasy Impact
Kay was making a spot start in place of Steven Matz (illness), who is expected to rejoin the rotation when he's eligible within the next few days. The 26-year-old has a 1-2 record with a 5.19 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across 26 innings in the majors this year.
Anthony Kay gave up two runs on four hits, four walks and struck out four batters over four innings in his start against the Rays on Friday.
Fantasy Impact
After Friday, Kay now has a 6.62 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 20 strikeouts over 17 2/3 innings on the season. The 26-year-old lefty is facing the Yankees on the road and should be avoided in most fantasy leagues.
Anthony Kay pitched four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out six in the win over the Phillies on Saturday. He did not factor into the decision.
Fantasy Impact
Kay allowed just three base runners in his four innings pitched and has a 7.24 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 13 2/3 innings. His next start is Friday against Tampa Bay but is only worth owning in deeper fantasy leagues.
Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo says LHP Anthony Kay could make another start soon.
Fantasy Impact
Kay could be taking the rotation spot of Nate Pearson, who was sent down earlier on Tuesday. The lefty isn't considered a fantasy option at this time.
