Allen Webster recalled, will start Saturday vs. Giants

The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled RHP Allen Webster from Triple-A Reno to take the place of Josh Collmenter in the rotation. The 25-year-old Webster missed time earlier in the season with shoulder fatigue and had a 9.00 ERA in 23 innings. His major league ERA is 6.25 over two partial seasons with the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Impact

Webster was a well-regarded prospect a few years ago, but the results have not matched the hype during his career. He may be a late-bloomer or a post-hype sleeper, but even taking the small sample size into account, you would hope for better than a 9.00 ERA when facing AAA hitters before wagering on a surprise performance.

Allen Webster ejected from spring training game

Allen Webster was ejected from Monday's game after hitting Justin Turner with a pitch. Webster gave up two runs on three hits in one inning of work.

Fantasy Impact

The former Dodgers prospect had no intentions on hitting Turner, but his chances to make the Dbacks' roster were cut short Monday after his, and his manager Chip Hale's ejection.

Allen Webster roughed up in second consecutive outing

Allen Webster was hit hard for the second consecutive outing, taking the loss against the Reds during "Will Ferrell Day" in the Cactus League. Webster allowed seven hits and walked one while giving up four runs in 2 2/3 innings. Arizona acquired Webster (among others) in the trade that sent Wade Miley to the Red Sox in December. In 2014, the (then) 24-year-old prospect started 11 games for the Red Sox, pitching to an ERA of 5.03 with an unfortunate 36/28 K/BB ratio.

Fantasy Impact

Webster has not helped his cause in trying to make the Diamondbacks starting rotation with two poor outings to start the spring. Despite the rough performances over parts of two major league seasons, scouting reports have cited his top-of-the-rotation stuff and the Diamondbacks are/were hoping he would be able to be plugged into the rotation at the start of 2015.
