Alfredo Simon placed on DL

The Reds have placed Alfredo Simon on the 15-day disabled list due to a shoulder injury.

Fantasy Impact

This has more impact on opposing hitters with fantasy relevance, as Simon had been awful this season and carried no fantasy value. He posted an ERA and WHIP north of 9.00 and 2.00 over 13 starts.

Alfredo Simon allows four runs over seven strong at Coors, Reds take series

Simon produced one of the more unlikely lines of the season, allowing four earned runs on five hits over seven innings of work at the hitter's paradise of Coors Field. He struck out six and walked three while throwing 111 pitches. The Reds offense provided him with plenty of support, tagging Eddie Butler for eight runs in just four innings. The Reds tacked on a few more late, winning 11-4 and winning a road series for the first time this season.

Fantasy Impact

Simon's numbers are still an eyesore, with a 8.94 ERA and 1.92 WHIP, but he produced at just the right time in this one. The Reds have now won four of their last six road games after starting the season 3-18 away from home. Simon can remain on your league's waiver wire. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against St. Louis.

Alfredo Simon struggles again, gets ejected in Reds' comeback win

Simon allowed three runs (two earned) over four-plus innings of work on Saturday. He allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out just one. He was hit by a Chase Anderson pitch in the fourth inning, then was promptly ejected in the fifth after hitting Anderson in the shoulder with a pitch. He declined comment on whether the pitch was retaliation for being hit in the previous inning. Meanwhile, the Reds fell behind 6-1 and looked well on their way to their 12th consecutive loss before tagging reliever Michael Blazek for five runs in the seventh innings. Things got even crazier as an overturned double-play gave the Reds the go ahead run in the ninth inning of a 7-6 win.

Fantasy Impact

As you likely know by now, Simon isn't a pitcher who should be on your radar in any league. He owns a 9.60 ERA and 2.06 WHIP on the season along with just a 28/19 K/BB over 40.1 IP. Leave him on the wire and stack against him whenever you can. If you didn't think things could get worse for the big right-hander, his next start comes on Tuesday at Coors Field. Bombs away.

Alfredo Simon gets rocked again, Reds fall short against Mariners

Over the course of five innings, Simon managed to retire 15 batters and allow 12 to reach base (nine hits, three walks), while striking out just one batter (sorry, Steve Clevenger). He allowed five earned runs, and his ERA now sits at a ridiculous 10.16, with an atrocious WHIP of 2.15. The Reds actually held a 3-0 lead in this one before Simon fell apart, and the bullpen pitched four scoreless innings in relief in the 5-4 loss.

Fantasy Impact

Simon is not only a pitcher you want to avoid having anywhere near your roster, but it might be a good idea to target him with hitters as long as possible. The worst ERA among qualified pitchers belongs to Wily Peralta at 6.99, but Simon's 10.16 mark would blow him out of the water. Long story short, avoid Simon and get as many hitters against him as you can. His next start is scheduled for Saturday at Milwaukee.

Alfredo Simon gets destroyed by Indians on Tuesday night, Reds lose again

Simon was back to his old tricks, allowing a ridiculous 10 earned runs over 4.1 innings on Tuesday night. He served up 14 hits, walked one and struck out a pair. This is now the second time in his last five starts that he has allowed at least eight earned runs. He fell to 1-4 with the 13-1 loss as the Reds have now served up 28 runs in two games against the Indians.

Fantasy Impact

Simon is an easy avoid in all leagues and daily contests. He has produced a few quality starts, but has also gotten shelled a few times. There are plenty of better options out there, as you can't even rely on Simon to eat innings at this point. He has lasted more than five innings just twice in seven starts. He is scheduled to get his next start on Sunday against the Mariners.
