Week 17 Outlook
Availability
Giants running back David Wilson was placed on Injured Reserve today, ending his season. The burner he suffered in practice last week caused "numbness" in his hands and lower extremities, and his spinal surgeon advised him to quit playing football. Wilson has taken that advice.
Fantasy Impact
This is a real shame for Wilson and fans of the NFL. On Monday Wilson said, "I don't want anybody to feel sorry for me, or pity me. I lived my dream. A lot of people only get to dream their dream. I lived that dream." He finished his career with 7 total touchdowns, and set a Giants team record for kickoff return yards in 2012.
David Wilson has been advised by Giants team doctors that he should no longer play football in light of last week's injury and symptoms. Wilson will be placed on injured reserve and will miss the 2014 season. It is likely that his career is, unfortunately, over.
Fantasy Impact
The Giants depth chart at RB is now Jennings, Williams, Hillis, Gaskins and Cox - with Jennings and Williams holding the most fantasy value.
After undergoing spinal fusion surgery in the offseason, Wilson suffered a burner in his neck at Tuesday's practice. A source close to the Giants says he "needs a miracle" to return.
Fantasy Impact
This paints an awfully different picture than just a few days ago. Rashad Jennings said he "started to hurt" when Wilson left the field Tuesday. This is a shame and could prevent a player with dizzying speed and great talent from ever playing again. Stay tuned, but don't reach for Wilson in drafts until there's more info.
The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting today that David Wilson may need more than a favorable doctor's visit on Monday to continue his NFL career.
Fantasy Impact
Hopefully this news relating to the neck "burner" suffered by Wilson on Tuesday is not true. Wilson, the Giants 2012 first round pick out of Virginia Tech, has rushed for 504 yards and 5 TDs in his two years. Obviously, if the news on Monday (or later) reveals a season or, worse, career ending injury, Wilson will hold no fantasy value.
David Wilson suffered a neck burner at camp on Tuesday. The extent of the injury is not yet known.
Fantasy Impact
Because Wilson is coming off of last season's neck surgery, today's news is cause for concern. Given the injury concerns that may be present this season with Wilson, irrespective of whether Wilson may be sidelined due to this injury, Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams should be the primary Giants RBs targeted on draft day in all formats.
