Marcus Mariota still Eagles’ QB2, per Sirianni

Nick Sirianni said that QB Marcus Mariota is still the Philadelphia Eagles’ QB2 despite his shaky preseason outings, saying it’s “way too early” to call rookie Tanner McKee the backup QB. (Jeff McLane on Twitter)

Mariota through two preseason performances has completed 16 of his 28 pass attempts for 144 yards, no TDs and one interception in three quarters of action. The former Heisman winner started 13 games for the Atlanta Falcons last season, struggling to a 5-8 record that eventually saw him benched for then-rookie QB Desmond Ridder. Mariota is currently the Eagles’ QB2, but his track record in the NFL has been shaky. If McKee can continue to impress, this could change sooner rather than later, despite Sirianni’s sentiment.
