Jack Leiter had a rough outing on Thursday, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three over 3.2 innings as the Rangers edged the Tigers 9-7.
Fantasy Impact
Despite the team's victory, Leiter's performance was far from victorious, marking a concerning start to his season. He got through a clean first inning before the Tigers tagged him for four runs in the second and a few more a couple of innings later. He has struggled in the minors since getting drafted but there is still plenty of upside here. He is likely going to be sent back to the minors to work on some things, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get another shot later in the year.
The Texas Rangers have called up Jack Leiter from Triple-A.
Fantasy Impact
Leiter, the No. 2 pick in the 2021 draft, has struck out 25 hitters and walked three across 14 1/3 innings so far in Triple-A this year. He is slated to make his MLB debut on Thursday against the Tigers.
Jack Leiter pitched 1.2 innings, allowing two hits, two walks, and three earned runs.
Fantasy Impact
Leiter did strikeout four hitters which was encouraging but he did serve up a two-run home run to Royals' Nick Pratto. Leiter was the Rangers' first round(second overall) draft pick in 2021 and this was his first game action since his college season at Vanderbilt.
The Texas Rangers have signed first-round selection right-hander Jack Leiter to a contract on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact
Leiter, son of former major-leaguer Al Leiter, signed his rookie contract with Texas on Wednesday. He was selected second overall by the Rangers in the 2021 MLB Draft. The 21-year-old owned a 2.13 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, and a 179:45 K: BB across 110 innings in his last season at Vanderbilt. The rookie phenom is a strikeout machine and has a bright future for the Rangers.
