Chris Borland

Week 12 Outlook
Availability
Chris Borland, one of the NFL's top defensive rookies last year, told "Outside the Lines" that he is retiring due to concerns about the long-term effects of repetitive head trauma.
Fantasy Impact
This is a huge blow for the 49ers defense after fellow linebacker and All-Pro Patrick Willis retired last week. Borland was set to be a great IDP pickup, but this news hurts the 49ers team more than it does fantasy owners. The onus will be put on Navorro Bowman to return to form from a gruesome knee injury.
Chris Borland's season is over as the 49ers placed him on IR from his ankle injury sustained last week in Seattle.
Fantasy Impact
In a corresponding move the 49ers activated LB Chase Thomas. He is not fantasy relevant can be safely ignored. With Borland, Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman all expected back in 2015, Borland's fantasy value is likely done.
In his weekly press conference, Vic Fangio admitted it would be "a stretch" to see Chris Borland before next season.
Fantasy Impact
Borland has been a monster since he took over for Patrick Willis, but his season appears to be over. With Willis and NaVorro Bowman set to return next year, his fantasy relevance may be over, as well. The 49ers are set to roll with Nick Moody & Michael Wilhoite as their inside linebackers. Neither should be owned.
Borland sustained an ankle injury in the final play of the first half, and was unable to play in the 2nd half in Seattle. The 49ers have signed veteran linebacker Desmond Bishop, which is not a good sign for Borland's availability for the remainder of the season.
Fantasy Impact
If Borland can't go this week, it makes the 49ers defense a very risky play against the Chargers and Philip Rivers.
Chris Borland had six tackles, three solo before leaving with an injury at the end of the first half.
Fantasy Impact
Borland was injured on a block thrown by Russell Wilson on an Eric Reid attempted run back on an interception. He injured his ankle and tried to give it a go after the half but quickly ended back on the sideline. There is no further news about his availability for Saturday vs. San Diego.
