Gay recently underwent a procedure to fix a sports hernia, and he wasn't able to practice on Wednesday because of it. His status for Week 1 is in doubt at this point, and Spencer Shrader will be the primary candidate to take the starting job if the veteran doesn't play in the season opener on Sunday.
