Lions release Safety Taylor Mays

The Detroit Lions have released veteran safety Taylor Mays, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. (NFL)
Fantasy Impact:
Mays was taken by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft, but has mostly failed in living up to his potential. The former University of Southern California standout saw limited action with the '9ers and was traded after only one season, to the Cincinnati Bengals. Mays also spent a few months with the Minnesota Vikings this off-season, before being signed by the Lions. Although he has yet to make a lasting impression on a team, there's a strong chance that the 27-year-old could still latch on with a safety-needy team such as the Miami Dolphins, or Philadelphia Eagles.
