Chase Claypool dealing with shoulder injury

by Luke Monaldo | Sat, Jul 30th 10:18am EDT

Chase Claypool suffered a shoulder injury at Friday's practice and will be evaluated to determine the extent of the injury as reported by ESPN's Brooke Pryor. (Brooke Pryor on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said after practice Friday that Claypool's injury was "probably not serious" and the team doesn't have a "high level of concern" at this point. For now, it appears Claypool and the Steelers dodged a bullet and he has avoided a serious injury. Claypool finished last season with 59 catches for 860 receiving yards, similar to his 2020 numbers of 62 receptions for 873. His big regression was in the touchdown department where he dropped from nine touchdowns in 2020 to just two in 2021. In an offense where Diontae Johnson is the clear number one receiver, at least in terms of targets (169 to Claypool's 105 last season), Claypool must have a better nose for the endzone this season to maintain WR2 status.
