Adam Schefter is reporting that Eagles' head coach Nick Sirianni stated that Jalen Hurts is not a lock to be the Week 1 starter and there will be an open competition for the job. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
Just over a month ago following the Carson Wentz trade, Jeffrey Lurie was instructing the Eagles to prioritize Hurts as the team's starter. Since then, veteran free agent Joe Flacco was brought in and the waters have been muddied a bit. Hurts, a 2020 second-round pick, took over last season after a rough stretch from Wentz. Hurts showed his potential in Week 15 when he racked up 338 yards and three touchdowns through the air and 63 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Over his four starts though, he threw three interceptions and coughed up six fumbles. A very polarizing player this offseason, Hurts has a sky-high potential as a rushing quarterback if he's able to land the starting job. We will keep you updated as new news develops.
