Mathis wants to return to Detroit for (at least) another season

Cornerback Rashean Mathis has expressed interest in playing at least one more season for the Detroit Lions, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. (Detroit Free Press)

Mathis is coming off one of his best seasons as a pro. The soon to be 35-year-old was ranked 12th among corners by Pro Football Focus, in 2014. In addition to being a stalwart in the Lions secondary, the 12-year veteran has contributed heavily to the development of fellow corner Darius Slay. Although he is set to be an unrestricted free agent, Mathis is almost a lock to return to the Lions for another season, as their defense is undeniably stronger with him on the field.
