Royce Freeman can 'absolutely' be Denver's feature-back

by Jody Smith | Mon, Jun 25th 10:12am EDT

ESPN Senior Writer Jeff Legwold thinks that third-round rookie RB Royce Freeman has a realistic shot at emerging ahead of Devontae Booker as Denver's lead back and could become the first Broncos' rusher to exceed 250 carries since the 2004 NFL season. Asked near the end of training camp if Booker could become Denver's starter, head coach Vance Joseph said "absolutely." (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

Freeman looks like the most talented back on the club's roster, as Booker has been underwhelming and had been relegated to change-of-pace duties behind C.J. Anderson, who was released. Freeman carried a large load at Oregon and was durable, powerful and also caught the ball well. He's got a good shot at opening the season with a substantial role and has RB2 upside.
