Cam Newton expected to run less and unload faster

Appearing on SiriusXM's NFL Radio, Ron Rivera, head coach of the Carolina Panthers, confirmed that the team will try and get the ball out of Cam Newton's hands quicker this season and will have him run less. (Ross Tucker on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

The window for Cam Newton to return to his 2015 production is all but shut. With his injury history fresh in the minds of coaches and anyone watching, it's hard to imagine the team drawing up too many run plays for him moving forward. The additions of Christian McCaffrey and Curtis Samuel also point to a potential shift in the number of big plays down the field. If the team sticks to what Rivera is saying, Newton's two greatest weapons are being taken away, his rushing opportunities and his ability to throw down the field. Instead, he may be forced to rely on his weakness, the short and accurate throws. Monitor his performance closely this preseason and draft with caution.
