Max Strus totaled 27 points (9-17 FG, 7-13 3PT, 2-2 FT), twelve rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block in the Cavaliers’ 114-113 win over the Nets.
Fantasy Impact:
Strus double-doubled in the Cavaliers’ win over the Nets, putting together an incredibly impressive performance that included a 27.0-point outburst with 12.0 rebounds to match. It is hard to imagine one’s team debut going any better than it did for Strus, as everything was going his way in this contest. Even though he has demonstrated consistent growth in his development and production year-after-year, it is hard to accept this level of production as anything other than an outlier, especially considering his production throughout the years. Last year he averaged 28.4 minutes of playing time, 11.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game while shooting 41.0 percent from the floor and 35.0 percent from beyond the arc with the Heat. Although he has had success in his limited and often times pragmatic roles throughout the years, one should significantly temper expectations moving forward; however, that doesn’t mean that a small bit of excitement for what he can do on his new team is unwarranted. If he is able to capture some consistency in playing towards this level of play moving forward, he could be worth a deep league stash in season-long formats, and certainly a viable fantasy play in daily formats as a last-piece add to your roster. In any case, keeping him on your radar at this point could pay off in a relatively big way as the season progresses.
