Vince Carter is officially retiring from professional basketball

Future Hall of Famer Vince Carter went on the Winging It Podcast and officially announced his retirement from professional basketball. (Atlanta Hawks on Twitter)

“I’m officially done playing basketball professional,” Carter said. The 22-year veteran came into the NBA in 1998 as the fifth-overall pick of the Toronto Raptors. He spent seven incredible seasons in Toronto before joining the Nets during the 2004-05 season. After five seasons with the Nets, Carter went on to play for six teams in the next 10 years. He finishes his career averaging 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.1assists, and one steal in 30 minutes per game in a whopping 1,541 regular season games. Carter was able to extend his career in the NBA by becoming a very good 3PT shooter, but he’s best know for his ability as a slasher and dunker. The “it’s over” gesture after the between the legs dunk in the 2000 NBA dunk contest will forever live on as one of the most iconic images in dunk contest history. Congratulations to Vince Carter on a fantastic career and a much deserved retirement.
