Angel Zerpa

The Royals have optioned Angel Zerpa to Triple-A Omaha.

Zerpa has struggled in August and will now get a chance to reset in the minor leagues. Daniel Lynch has been recalled and will join the bullpen for the Royals.

Angel Zerpa is the only Royals pitcher who has yet to report due to visa/passport issues.

Catcher Rodolfo Durán has also yet to report due to the same issues. They shouldn't have too much of an issue getting to camp soon with still over a month till Opening Day.

Angel Zerpa agreed to a contract for the 2024 season with the Royals to avoid arbitration.

Zerpa missed most of last season due to a shoulder injury. He pitched in the Arizona Fall League where he was stretched out a bit. He could be used more in long relief this season for the Royals.

Angel Zerpa delivered an impressive performance on Wednesday, allowing just three hits and no earned runs over 5.1 innings pitched against the Guardians.

Zerpa showed excellent control, issuing zero walks while striking out four batters. With this outing, Zerpa has now recorded a 4.58 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP across 13 games this season.

His rehab destination has yet to be determined but it appears the left-hander has been progressing well of late. Zerpa has yet to pitch at any level this season due to the shoulder injury and spent the bulk of the 2022 season at Double-A where he posted a 4.36 ERA in 13 starts. He appeared in three games for the Royals, posting a 1.64 ERA -- albeit with a 5.51 SIERA -- across 11 innings of work.
