Lucas Giolito (hamstring) not close to returning

by Bruno Mulé | Thu, Apr 3rd 1:22pm EDT

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Lucas Giolito (hamstring) is "not close" to rejoining the rotation, according to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe. Giolito tossed just 51 pitches over 2.1 innings in his first rehab start Wednesday for Triple-A Worcester and will require at least a couple more outings to build up following his hamstring strain and recovery from 2024 elbow surgery. Fantasy Impact:

Cora's "not close" assessment confirms Giolito needs significant build-up via multiple rehab starts after his brief first outing (51 pitches). Recovering from hamstring/elbow issues, he remains weeks away. Keep stashed on IL but temper return expectations.
