Brett Baty secures spot on Mets Opening Day roster

The Mets informed Brett Baty on Wednesday that he’ll be on the Opening Day roster, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports. (Abbey Mastracco)

Paul Blackburn will start the season on the 15-day IL with knee soreness. Max Kranick and Huascar Brazobán will be in the Mets bullpen to start to the season. Hayden Senger has also made the team. AJ Minter will be active, Brett Baty makes the team.

Baty's strong spring made this decision a formality—he raked to a .353/.441/.745 clip with four homers and a 6:8 K:BB over 20 Grapefruit League games. While originally competing for a utility role, Baty’s defensive reps at second base paid off. With Jeff McNeil (oblique) sidelined, Baty is now locked in as the club’s primary second baseman against right-handed pitching to begin the season.
