Matthew Liberatore likely to begin season in Cardinals bullpen

by Bruno Mulé | Cardinals Correspondent | Thu, Mar 13th 11:38am EDT

Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said Thursday that Matthew Liberatore is expected to open the season in the bullpen, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. (Derrick Goold)

Fantasy Impact:

Liberatore has been stretched out as a starter this spring and has pitched effectively, allowing just two runs over 9.2 innings with a 5:2 K:BB. However, with the Cardinals' rotation set, the left-hander's clearer path to a roster spot is in relief. While the team isn’t ruling out future starts, Liberatore has fared much better as a reliever in his career, posting a 3.89 ERA in relief appearances compared to a 5.86 ERA as a starter.
