Nick Gonzales set to be Pirates primary second baseman

by Bruno Mulé | Pirates Correspondent | Thu, Mar 13th 10:10am EDT

Nick Gonzales is expected to serve as the Pirates' primary second baseman this season, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. (Alex Stumpf)

Fantasy Impact:

Gonzales earned an extended look in the majors last season, posting a 94 wRC+ and .709 OPS across 58 games. His combination of pedigree and performance has positioned him for a starting role in 2025, with most of his reps coming at second base. This spring, Gonzales has maintained a strong plate approach, striking out just 14.3% of the time in 28 plate appearances, though he has recorded only two extra-base hits. His ability to limit strikeouts while generating more power will be key to his success in a full-time role.
