Joe Ross expected to begin season in Phillies bullpen

Joe Ross is being stretched out as a starter this spring, but he is expected to open the season in the bullpen if Philadelphia’s rotation remains healthy, per Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia. Manager Rob Thomson indicated that Ross will primarily serve as a multi-inning or leverage reliever, though he remains the next man up if a spot in the rotation opens.

Fantasy Impact:

Ross struggled in 10 starts with Milwaukee last season (4.98 ERA, 39:18 K:BB in 47 innings) but was far more effective as a reliever, posting a 1.67 ERA across 15 bullpen appearances. While his fantasy value is limited in a relief role, he could become a streaming option if he gets spot starts during the season. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues should keep him on their watchlists in case of injuries to the Phillies’ rotation.
