Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Jeff Hoffman closed over Carlos Estévez because he had already been getting warm in the eighth. (Tim Kelly on Twitter)

Estevez remains the closer in the Phillies bullpen. He would have pitched the 9th inning if Hoffman took the mound in the 8th inning.
