Brendan Donovan drives in run in Cardinals' loss

by Chris Schommer | Cardinals Correspondent | Sun, Jul 7th 6:55am EDT

Brendan Donovan went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in the Cardinals' 14-6 defeat to the Nationals.

Fantasy Impact:

While his performance was a small bright spot, it did little to stem the tide in a game dominated by Washington. Donovan's season batting average holds at .265, with a modest power output of eight homers and 43 RBI over 83 games. His on-base skills, highlighted by a .325 wOBA, continue to make him a viable option in deeper fantasy leagues, particularly in formats that reward OBP. However, his limited stolen base numbers and moderate slugging percentage suggest his ceiling may not be much higher than what he's shown thus far. Fantasy managers should view Donovan as a steady, if unspectacular, contributor who can fill in gaps but isn't likely to be a difference-maker in standard formats.
