Hector Neris Barely Clings to Save Against Rays

by Jesse Garcia | Wed, Jun 12th 11:39pm EDT

Hector Neris allowed two hits and a walk while giving up one earned run but still managed to secure the save in the Cubs' 4-3 victory over the Rays on Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact:

This outing, while successful in adding another save to his tally, was hardly a showcase of dominance. With a season ERA now over 4.21 and a WHIP that continues to hover uncomfortably high at 1.64, Neris's grip on the closer role could be in jeopardy if these tightrope acts continue. His strikeout rate remains decent, but the lack of control and high number of base runners allowed per inning are red flags for fantasy managers. While he notched the save today, his performances suggest a potential for more blown saves unless he can regain some measure of control and efficiency.
