VerHagen has been out since July 1 due to a hip injury but has officially begun a rehab assignment. He surrendered one earned run on one hit with a strikeout for Springfield on Thursday and worked to a 4.78 ERA across 35 appearances out of the Cardinals' bullpen this season.
