The veteran was promoted from Triple-A Omaha Tuesday with pitcher Max Castillo being optioned in a corresponding move. Wittgren pitched to a 5.90 ERA in 29 appearances with the Cardinals last season and tossed a sparkling 1.25 ERA across 17 appearances this season in Omaha, racking up five saves in the process.
