Hjelle was sent down to make room for Darin Ruf on the active roster after he returned to the Giants on a minor-league deal Saturday. The 25-year-old struck out 10 over six innings but also surrendered six earned runs and four walks in that time. He worked to a 5.76 ERA in 25 innings with the Giants last season.
