Mark Melancon tossed a perfect ninth inning in relief for the Diamondbacks Wednesday, recording his 18th save in the Diamondbacks' 5-2 win over the Astros.

Melancon has held opponents scoreless in seven of 10 September relief appearances for the Diamondbacks, posting a 1.20 WHIP and 2.70 ERA in that span. The veteran right-hander has been inconsistent at the back end of the Arizona bullpen for most of the season, posting a 1.54 WHIP and 4.67 ERA with 34 strikeouts and 18 saves in 60 relief appearances this season.
