Fantasy Impact:

After being designated for assignment last week, Upton could have been claimed off waivers, traded, or released. Understandably, no team wanted to claim his steep $28 million contract. The same can be said about a trade, though the Halos could have eaten some of his contract. Instead, he's cut loose and is now free to sign with any team. Over the last three seasons (194 games) with Los Angeles, the veteran slashed .211/.299/.414 with 38 homers, 82 walks, and 228 strikeouts. A three-time All-Star, Upton should have no trouble signing an MLB deal soon, albeit at a much more affordable salary.
