Caleb Smith earns the win as bulk reliever
by Jon Mathisen | Fri, Aug 13th 11:32am EDT
LHP Caleb Smith earned the win on Thursday when he allowed one unearned run on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in the D-Backs' 12-3 win over the Padres.
Fantasy Impact:
Smith had a rough July and August working as a starter so he was moved back into the bullpen and worked as the bulk reliever on Thursday. Matt Peacock worked as the opener, lasting 1 1/3 innings before Smith took over. He only allowed one unearned run and punched out five over his 5 1/3 inning of work. He was able to secure the win as well thanks to all the run support he received. The 30-year-old southpaw now owns a 5.17 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 106:54 K/BB ratio over 92 1/3 innings (32 appearances, 13 starts). It's unclear if he'll make a start in his next appearance or work out of the pen.
