Daniel Ponce de Leon picks up second career save on Thursday
by Lucas Spence | Fri, May 28th 12:45pm EDT
Called upon to pitch the bottom of the 10th inning after closer Alex Reyes had already appeared in the ninth inning, Daniel Ponce de Leon pitched a 1-2-3 inning to pick up the second save of his career in a 5-4 extra-innings win over Arizona on Thursday.
Fantasy Impact:
Closer Alex Reyes was warmed and ready to pitch the ninth inning for a save chance, but Giovanny Gallegos allowed the tying run to score in the eighth inning. Reyes then entered in the ninth inning, which allowed Ponce de Leon to pick up the save in extra innings after the Cardinals took the lead in the top half of the tenth inning. Ponce de Leon has made two spot starts this season, but otherwise he has been used as a middle reliever and owns an uninspiring 6.75 ERA and 1.57 WHIP. He can be ignored in fantasy leagues.
