″(Teams) didn’t come anywhere near what I thought was respectful and what I thought is right," Gennett said. The veteran infielder was seeking a $5 million deal but the best he got was an offer for $1.5 million plus incentives, though that team also had an everyday second baseman. Gennett posted an .847 OPS as recently as 2018 but struggled mightily with injuries and ineffectiveness last year.
