Veteran catcher Wil Nieves went 0-3 in Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Royals. He is currently listed as backup to Derek Norris.
Fantasy Impact:
With Tim Federowicz scheduled for surgery on Thursday, the Padres have an opening at backup catcher. Wil Nieves offers no fantasy value. Star prospect Austin Hedges still needs to improve his bat in the minors. Maybe the Padres' look outside the organization, perhaps Welington Castillo, Dioner Navarro or Michael McKenry.
