Former closer Chris Perez signs minor league contract with Brewers

The Brewers, who have been searching for relievers with closing experience, signed Perez to a minor league contract with an invitation to the Brewers spring camp. Perez had 123 saves from 2010-2013 with the Indians, making the All-Star team in 2011 and 2012. Perez would earn a $1.5 million base salary if he makes the roster, with a chance to top out at $3 million with incentives. (MLB.com)
Fantasy Impact:
The Brewers plan to enter the season with Jonathan Broxton as the closer. Perez pitched last season with the Dodgers posting a 4.27 ERA. After struggling most of the season, Perez regained his All-Star form in September with seven scoreless appearances while holding batters to .087 batting average. The 29-year old regained his velocity last season as his fastball averaged 94.3-mph. Perez will be an interesting person to watch this spring to see if he challenges for the closer role on the Brewers or just becomes insurance in case Broxton gets hurt or struggles.
