Matt Harvey DFA'd by Mets
by Nick Ritrivi | Fri, May 4th 4:38pm EDT
A sad but inevitable end to Matt Harvey's career with the Mets. Following Thursday's relief outing in which Harvey allowed five earned runs in just two innings of work, his ERA ballooned to 7.00 on the season with a WHIP of 1.56. The Mets DFA'd him and he refused assignment to the minors (unsurprisingly). The Mets now have seven days to trade him or he becomes a free agent. After an illustrious start to his Mets' career in 2012 and 2013, he was derailed by Tommy John surgery, but bounced back to help lead the Mets to the NL Pennant in 2015. His 2016 season was sadly cut short due to thoracic outlet surgery and, when he returned in 2017, he was never able to replicate his mound dominance again. (Anthony DiComo on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
Harvey will likely catch on with another team in desperate need of pitching depth. He holds no fantasy value at this point an can be ignored in all formats.
