Against the Spread: Divisional Round Picks
Game: Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles (+3)
Pick: Philadelphia Eagles (+3)
There's been zero respect for the Eagles. I get the Carson Wentz love, but there are playmakers on this squad. Work fast, get things moving and get that top-ranked run defense to press Ryan into tough third-down situations.
Game: Tennessee Titans at New England Patriots (-13.5)
Pick: New England Patriots (-13.5)
Love to see Henry get his run & become the focal point of the offense. He and Mariota will need to pile up touches and keep Brady & Gronk caged on the sideline.
However, this isn't the September NE defense, and Patricia will contain Mariota's scrambling. The numbers all say that Tennessee should have been sitting at home for a couple weeks. Andy Reid's not on the sideline.
Game: Jacksonville Jaguars at Pittsburgh Steelers (-7)
Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars (+7)
Bortles probably shouldn't have tossed LeBron James into the mix as he responded to criticism, but recency bias is skewing perception. Yes, he was terrible on Sunday and missed receiver after receiver. Just remember that the hot-takers were looking at a four-game stretch in a vacuum.
Run the ball. Control the clock. Or die trying. Marrone has to slow this thing down, trust his corners and bring the heat. I think this one's more of a grind for Pittsburgh's advancement.
Game: New Orleans Saints at Minnesota Vikings (-4.5)
Pick: New Orleans Saints (+4.5)
I picked New Orleans to reach the conference championship before the season. I've owned the 90,000 things I got wrong, so I'm claiming this one.
It was fun to talk about Drew Brees as the "fallback option" ahead of last week's game. He torched the Panthers while the run game struggled. This Minnesota team is deeper and strong at every level. And, the Saints don't have to try and force the ball to Adrian Peterson like they did back in Week 1.
Questions remain about Case Keenum in a big spot against a strong Saints defense. I believe the Vikings get the win, but I'll take the Saints and the points.
