While the 2025 NFL regular season is still months away, it’s never too early to prepare for the upcoming fantasy football season. Much will change between today and when fantasy drafts start this summer. However, let’s look at five wide receivers that fantasy players should avoid drafting this year.

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers to Avoid
Tyreek Hill (MIA)
Last year, Hill finished the season as the WR21, averaging 10.5 half-point PPR fantasy points per game, the lowest average of his career. While many will blame his struggles on Tua Tagovailoa‘s injuries, the veteran wide receiver averaged 12.4 fantasy points per game in the 11 contests the franchise quarterback started. Furthermore, Hill had a career-low six offensive touchdowns in 2024 after totaling 13 the year before. He recently turned 31 years old and has shown signs of decline. Fantasy players should avoid drafting him as a WR1 next season.
DK Metcalf (PIT)
After six years with the Seattle Seahawks, Metcalf got traded to the Steelers this offseason. Unfortunately, Pittsburgh currently doesn’t have a starting-caliber quarterback on the roster. More importantly, Metcalf is coming off the worst fantasy performance of his career since his rookie year. Last season, he finished as the WR32, averaging 10.5 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Furthermore, it was the first time the veteran had fewer than six receiving touchdowns in a year. Between Arthur Smith’s play-calling and the quarterback situation, Metcalf is on my do-not-draft list.
Jerry Jeudy (CLE)
While he finished as the WR15 last season, averaging 11.5 half-point PPR fantasy points per game, Jeudy was a flash in the pan rather than a reliable option. He averaged 9.9 targets and 17.6 fantasy points per game in Jameis Winston’s seven starts. By comparison, Jeudy averaged 8.4 targets and 8.1 fantasy points per game in the other nine contests. Furthermore, 18.4% of the veteran fantasy points for the year came in the revenge matchup against the Denver Broncos. I refuse to draft Jeudy unless Winston returns to Cleveland.
Jalen McMillan (TB)
McMillan ended his rookie season on fire. He was the WR7 over the final five weeks, averaging 17.4 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. However, the former Washington star averaged only 6.2 targets per contest. His production came from finding the end zone, totaling seven receiving touchdowns over the final five weeks, accounting for 48.2% of his fantasy point total. By comparison, McMillan averaged 3.7 fantasy points per game, totaling one receiving touchdown over the first 13 weeks. Unfortunately, his upside is limited after Chris Godwin re-signed with the Buccaneers.
Michael Pittman Jr. (IND)
The Colts’ passing attack was one of the worst units in the NFL last year. Unfortunately, that likely won’t change in 2025 with Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones under center. Last season, Pittman finished as the WR43, averaging 8.2 half-point PPR fantasy points per game, posting a lower average than Josh Downs (10.5) and Alec Pierce (8.9). Furthermore, he had only one game with more than six receptions after totaling 10 contests with eight or more receptions in 2023. Fantasy players should avoid drafting any Indianapolis wide receiver next year.
