This will be my final mock draft of the series as we enter the first week of the season with the Dodgers and Cubs opening with a two-game series in Japan. I have done mock drafts with an early pick and one with a late pick. This fantasy baseball mock draft is for a middle pick strategy.
In this mock draft, I will be drafting from the No. 6 pick in a 12-team league. The roster for this mock will be: 1-C, 1-1B, 1-2B, 1-SS, 1-3B, 3-OF, 1-UTIL, 5-P and three bench spots. You can find the full results here.

Fantasy Baseball Mock Draft
1.05: Juan Soto (OF – NYM)
Juan Soto was a no-brainer at No. 5 overall with Shohei Ohtani, Bobby Witt Jr., Aaron Judge, Elly De La Cruz and Jose Ramirez off the board.
2.07: Bryce Harper (1B – PHI)
Bryce Harper appeared in his most games (145) last season since 2019. The biggest concern for him has been his strikeout rate, but his walk rate has been impressive while slashing .285/.373/.525 at the plate. Harper is about as safe of a selection as you will find in the middle of round two.
3.05: Logan Gilbert (SP – SEA)
I anchored my pitching core with Logan Gilbert, who has been named the Opening Day starter for the Mariners this season. He finished sixth in American League Cy Young voting last year in a career year as he led the entire MLB in innings pitched with 208.2. He also posted an impressive 0.89 WHIP.
4.07: Corey Seager (SS – TEX)
5.05: Teoscar Hernandez (OF – LAD)
6.07: Adley Rutschman (C – BAL)
This is my first fantasy baseball mock draft where I didn’t wait until the double-digit rounds for my catcher. As I have said before, mock drafts are the time to practice different strategies when it comes to drafting a player at a different stage of drafts.
Adley Rutschman took a step back last season, slashing .250/.318/.391 with 19 home runs and 79 RBI. This is a stage of the draft where I am comfortable drafting him as he looks to bounce back at the plate.
7.05: Bryan Reynolds (OF – PIT)
8.07: Andres Munoz (RP – SEA)
9.05: Zac Gallen (SP – ARI)
10.07: Shane McClanahan (SP – TB)
11.05: Bryan Woo (SP – SEA)
12.07: Sandy Alcantara (SP – MIA)
This was not what I expected going into the mock, but I wound up drafting hitters with six of my first seven selections before drafting pitchers in five straight rounds. I usually prefer to build a more balanced roster, but I also always go best player available, and that is how I felt the board fell to me, attacking hitters early and stacking pitchers late.
13.05: Bryson Stott (SS, 2B – PHI)
I waited on shortstop in this mock draft and landed Bryson Stott late in the double-digit rounds. He took a step back last season after a strong rookie year, slashing .245/.315/.356 with 11 home runs. His biggest strength for fantasy managers is stolen bases, which I likely won’t have a ton of in my lineup.
14.07: Jurickson Profar (OF – ATL)
15.05: Kevin Gausman (SP – TOR)
16.07: Nolan Arenado (3B – STL)
I also waited on third base in this mock draft and landed Nolan Arenado late in the double-digit rounds. He remains with the Cardinals for now, though it is still possible he is eventually traded after being linked to the Astros and Red Sox in the offseason.
Arenado declined heavily last year when he hit just 16 home runs and drove in 71 runs with a slash line of .272/.325/.394 at the plate. His ceiling isn’t what it once was entering what will be his age-34 season, but he is a fine selection late for those who punt the position.
17.05: Heliot Ramos (OF – SF)
Draft Wizard Insights
The Draft Wizard gave this draft a B grade with an 85/100 score. I’m projected to finish sixth in the league.
The grade isn’t surprising as it was a bit of an unusual draft approach I wound up taking, stacking up hitters early and pitchers late. If I could go back, I likely would have drafted at least one more pitcher in the first five or six rounds, but I still like the team overall. There is never one way to draft your fantasy baseball team, especially with how long the season is to where the draft is only one part to building a strong team throughout the season.
