PGA DraftKings and FanDuel DFS Primer: Mexico Open at VidantaWorld (2025)

Mexico’s western coast is where 132 PGA Tour golfers are heading to compete at the fourth edition of the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld. The course remains the same, despite a name-change, running 7,400 yards as a par 71. Tony Finau set the course record at 24-under-par in 2023 but Jake Knapp is the defending champion, logging his first career win on the PGA Tour at 19-under-par in 2024.

My Genesis Invitational DFS Primer was mostly a whiff. However, Andrew Novak (T13) was a strong play at $8,300 on FanDuel. Taylor Pendrith wound up making the cut but placing 50th at +6, while paying a relative premium on Viktor Hovland and Sungjae Im turned out to be a bad investment, with both golfers missing the cut at Torrey Pines South.

Here’s my latest PGA DFS betting insights and picks entering the fourth edition of the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more DFS PGA and weekly golf analysis.

            Course Overview

Platinum paspalum is the surface on fairways, rough, and greens at VidantaWorld. It’s a par 71 with five par 3s and four par 5s, with the most prominent hazard being deep bunkers.

This course has 2.5 inch rough and over 7,400 yards in terms of distance. The relatively high elevation allows golf balls to sail off-the-tee and on approach, while wide fairways and short rough allow golfers to largely avoid concerns about scrambling.

VidantaWorld ranks as one of the easiest courses on the PGA Tour circuit. The Stimpmeter estimates 11 foot putting velocity, which is not nearly as fast as the 12 and 13-foot speeds recently seen on Bentgrass and Poa Annua at other events.

Not much water is present, while distance off-the-tee and on approach are integral to succeed at VidantaWorld. Putting becomes a weapon, especially with big, slow greens that invite approach shots from far and near. There is only one hole, the 12th par 5, that runs over 600 yards, while seven of nine par 4s are less than 500 yards.

The par 3s are the difficult piece to success, with three topping 200 yards off-the-tee. Designed by Greg Norman and established over 50 years ago, VidantaWorld is an inviting course that will inevitably allow golfers in this field to flood their scorecard with birdies.

            Recommended Plays: DraftKings

DraftKings maximum salary is set at $50,000

            Alex Smalley: $8,700

Alex Smalley at $8.7K isn’t a bad deal, especially for a golfer with his metrics. The 28-year-old American ranks third in total strokes gained, including 26th on approach, 18th putting, and 34th total driving.

He finds greens in regulation at over 73 percent, which is top-30 on the PGA Tour. Smalley also previously posted a T6 finish at this inaugural event in 2022.

            Justin Lower: $8,500

Justin Lower is coming off of a T3 finish at VidantaWorld last year, turning it on after a relatively slow first round score of -1-under-par. Lower ranks 36th SG: Approach and 33rd SG: Putting, including second on the PGA Tour in hole proximity.

He recently went T3 at The American Express and has made 16-17-22 birdies in three of his past four events in 2025. $8,500 is a quality price on Lower, so make sure to prioritize him in DraftKings lineup builds.

            Recommended Plays: FanDuel

FanDuel maximum salary is set at $60,000

            Greyson Sigg: $9,700

Greyson Sigg is a bit steep at $9.7K on FanDuel but we’re dealing with a $60K salary instead of $50K like on DraftKings, which makes this play a bit more digestible. Sigg has a top-1o finish at the Farmers Insurance Open on two much more difficult Torrey Pines courses in comparison to VidantaWorld.

His metrics aren’t eye-popping but Sigg did post a T19 finish here in 2024. Let’s ride with Sigg to climb the leaderboard and settle into a rhythm, ideally going 3-under-par or lower in every round this season.

            Sami Valimaki: $7,900

Sami Valimaki at under $8,000 feels like a trap but I can’t avoid taking it based on his solo runner-up finish at the 2024 Mexico Open. The Finnish golfer ranks eighth SG: Putting, which gives him a massive edge against the field this week.

Valimaki is also 38th in driving distance, 11th in sand save percentage, and turned in a top-20 finish at the Farmers Insurance Open. Conditions will be warm without much breeze, with more elevation compared to recent events held stateside. He played well here a year ago, and while I don’t expect another runner-up finish, a top-10 or top 20 is certainly in the cards.
