2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Will Campbell
Will Campbell (OT – LSU)
6-foot-66 | 323 Pounds
Background
A five-star recruit and Louisiana native, Will Campbell stepped right into the starting lineup at left tackle as a true freshman and has been there ever since. Per Pro Football Focus, Campbell was credited with two sacks allowed as a freshman, zero allowed as a sophomore and two allowed as a junior.
Positives
A three-year starter at left tackle for one of college football’s premier programs. Has very good size for a pro tackle; should check all the boxes for any team in terms of height/weight. Graceful athlete for the position, being light on his feet with impressive overall coordination. Flashes very good leg drive once engaged in the run game. Has the short-area quickness to successfully line up and engage opponents in space.
Campbell can pull across the line and secure blocks in the hole and space at the second level. Even when he’s playing a bit high, shows good contact balance to execute. Shows a good understanding of positioning to wall off opponents, with above-average grip strength. With his length and movement skills, does a nice job of protecting the edge against speed on passing downs.
Shows good knee-bend in his kick slide. Plays with good awareness and never looks like he’s overwhelmed or panicking. Active with his punch, firing out his hands and playing with good extension to keep opponents out of his frame. Does a nice job of resetting his hands, with good patience and placement. Snap-to-snap consistency is very impressive.
Negatives
Arms are reportedly shorter than usual for a player of his size, and some teams may consider him as a guard conversion candidate. Being a taller tackle, has some trouble in the leverage battle at times. Campbell’s base can get a little bit narrow at times. Those two factors combined can cause him to drop his anchor a bit late when facing bigger power rushers.
His back can be slightly hunched in pass sets at times. Works hard through the whistle but isn’t the nastiest or most physically dominant blocker. Could show more consistent leg drive; feet go dead at times in the run game. Committed just one penalty as a freshman, but has been more penalty-prone since, being flagged five times in 2023 and another nine in 2024.
Summary
A prototypical left tackle with an ideal combination of size, length, discipline and movement skills. With three years of SEC starting experience under his belt, Campbell looks like a plug-and-play option as a rookie, which should make him a high first-round pick given the premium position he plays. May never be a true phone-booth mauler, but understands positioning and has the mobility and technique to execute in the run game, with the lateral quickness, hand use and awareness to work on an island against speed in the passing game.
Projection: Round 1
