2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: TreVeyon Henderson

TreVeyon Henderson (RB – Ohio State)

5-foot-10 | 208 Pounds

Background

TreVeyon Henderson was a four-star recruit who took over the starting job in Week 3 of his true freshman season, finishing with an outstanding line of 183-1,248-15 (6.8) rushing and 27-312-4 receiving. Was limited to eight games the following year while dealing with a foot injury, finishing with 107-571-6 (5.3) and another four catches.

Played 10 games in 2023, missing some time with an ankle injury, totaling 156-926-11 (5.9) on the ground and adding 19-229-0 receiving. Stayed healthy in 2024, splitting carries with Quinshon Judkins and posted a 144-1,1016-10 (7.1) line with 27-284-1 receiving.

Positives

Productive four-year contributor for a major program with a balanced rushing attack. Runs low, with natural leverage and good knee bend. Patient to let things develop before hitting the hole, but plays with decisiveness when it’s there and shows impressive burst past the line of scrimmage. Very quick, agile back with excellent cuts in the backfield. Can win the corner on outside rushing attempts, with nice curvy runs to bend back upfield. Squirts through tight spaces for solid gains.

Difficult to tackle one-on-one in a phone booth and once he gets to the open field, working in everything from jump-cuts to spins. Can occasionally make something out of nothing when the play breaks down early. Henderson has impressive straight-line speed to run away from second-level defenders. Plays with physicality. Doesn’t shy away from contact. Momentum carries him forward at the end of his runs.

Does a nice job of limiting negative-yardage plays by putting his head down and driving his legs to get back to the line. Ball security has been excellent, with just one career fumble on nearly 600 career carries. Experienced in blitz pickup, with appropriate form to engage. Shows a pretty reliable pair of hands in the passing game, with just five career drops against 76 catches. Has the elusiveness to try and scheme him opportunities to work in space.

Negatives

Got banged up in 2022 and 2023, so durability could be a concern, especially because the injuries were in his lower body and he ended up becoming more of a committee back this past season.

Doesn’t run with a ton of power, tending to fall forward at the end of his runs but not push the pile very much. The yards-after-contact stats look nice, but Henderson struggles to break tackles. Can be overwhelmed on contact as a pass protector. Usage as a receiver was mostly as a pure safety valve, with some quick flat routes mixed in.

Summary

An exciting running back who has a very impressive combination of burst, quickness, agility and competitiveness. Shows more of a no-nonsense approach than is typical for someone with his talent. However, while Henderson runs with some angriness and physicality, he’s not a particularly powerful back. Can struggle to break tackles or consistently push the pile, with a somewhat concerning injury history.

Whether teams see him as a feature back or more of a dynamic committee option will probably determine how high he goes, but looks unlikely to make it out of the second day in any event. The Buckeyes have been balancing out their rushing attack in recent years, but a more zone-based offense might be his best fit.

Ashton Jeanty (Boise State)

Jeanty proved he’s the total package this past season, with an unbelievable combination of vision, patience, creativity, agility, power, balance and speed that nearly allowed him to break Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record.

Can fit in any offensive scheme, but might be best in a scheme that runs a relatively high amount of outside zone to maximize his home-run hitting ability. After a year in which he dazzled viewers with a nonstop succession of dominant highlights, Jeanty should be a lock for the first round, potentially going in the top half of the frame. Projects as a long-term, every-down feature back who should make an immediate impact.

Cam Skattebo (Arizona State)

Skattebo was one of the most productive and exciting players in college football this past season. He combined a natural feel for the position, smooth running skills, a tough and physical temperament and exceptional contact balance, culminating in well over 2,000 total yards on the season.

There’s not a whole lot to critique about his game, besides his lack of ideal explosiveness and long speed. Otherwise, Skattebo has the look of a potential every-down back in the league or at least the power back in a one-two punch. Could get some second-day looks.

Devin Neal (Kansas)

A fast, agile back with good burst and excellent open-field running skills, Neal functioned as a workhorse for the Jayhawks but might be more of a change-of-pace back at the next level, as he may struggle to grind out tough yardage between the tackles as a pro.

Neal’s snaps were relatively balanced throughout his career (more gap until this past season, then a little bit more zone), but might be better suited to a zone-blocking scheme where he’s able to stretch defenses out and cut upfield when he sees daylight. Probably more of a mid-round option.

Projection: Round 5
