2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Shavon Revel Jr.
Shavon Revel Jr. (CB – East Carolina)
6-foot-3 | 193 Pounds
Background
Shavon Revel Jr. began his career at Louisburg College, appearing in six games over two years. He then transferred to East Carolina, where he played sparingly in 2022 — 25 snaps, per Pro Fotball Focus (PFF) — before taking over a starting job the following year and posting 54 tackles, one interception and 13 breakups. Intercepted two passes in three appearances in 2024, but ended up tearing his ACL and missing the remainder of the year.
Positives
A very tall, incredibly lanky cornerback with an elite frame for the position. Revel typically lined up in press-man coverage on the short side of the field but also worked in zone coverage at times. Shows quick feet and good coordination on the snaps where he’s backpedaling. Patient to match releases at the line of scrimmage from press coverage.
Revel shows fluid hips and solid top-end speed to turn and run with opponents down the sidelines. Willing to get physical and use his length to pin opposing receivers to the sidelines when defending against outside releases. Uses his hands well to feel and stay connected to opponents.
His nice closing burst and elite length allow him to get his hands on plenty of throws. Has good flexibility to put himself in a position to make a play on the ball when in-phase. Length gives him an impressive tackling radius in run support. Shows good willingness to stick his nose in. Has been a reliable tackler who can help set the tone with solid hits when working downhill.
Negatives
His torn ACL injury suffered this past season will make medical evaluations a bigger part of Revel’s grade than usual. His frame is very thin and will likely be asked to add additional bulk/functional strength at the next level. Goes through his backpedal a little bit high.
Revel has a somewhat handsy approach and can be late to get his head around to locate. Penalties were an issue in his sole starting season, being flagged eight times (including two declined.) Doesn’t look as comfortable processing route combinations from off-zone looks. Struggles to work through traffic in the run game, as he lacks the contact balance and lower-body strength to hold his ground.
Summary
One of the tallest and longest corners around, Revel is an effective press-man cornerback who can match releases at the line, use the boundary to his advantage, flip his hips and carry receivers downfield. Can also impact throws with his flexibility and length. In the run game, he shows a good willingness to stick his nose in, with a wide radius and reliable tackling.
Those traits could get him first-round looks but probably come with more question marks than some of the other top talents in the class. Revel didn’t put as many snaps on tape as most of the other top prospects in the class. Teams will have questions about his ability to add bulk and how he’s recovering from his 2024 knee injury. Consequently, he may be more likely to slip to the second.
Projection: Round 2
