2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Max Brosmer

Max Brosmer (QB – Minnesota)

6-foot-2 | 225 Pounds

Background

Max Brosmer originally attended New Hampshire, where he spent five seasons. Started at quarterback since his true freshman season, going 6-4 that year with 1,967 yards (58.8% completion rate, 6.3 yards per attempt), 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Lost the team’s only game of the 2020 season, then took a medical redshirt in 2021 after tearing his ACL before the season. Returned in 2022 and went 9-4 as the starter, with 3,154 yards (62.6% completion rate, 7.5 yards per attempt), 27 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

His final season with the Wildcats came in 2023, where he went 6-5 with 3,464 yards (64% completion rate, 7.5 yards per attempt), 29 touchdowns and five interceptions. Transferred to Minnesota and went 7-5 this past season, with 2,617 yards (66.8% completion rate, 7.0 yards per attempt), 17 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Positives

Experienced quarterback with 47 career starts under his belt. Solidly-built passer who comes from a pro-style offense that asked him to work through progressions and take some snaps from under center. Fundamentally/mechanically sound passer. Plays with a wide base and doesn’t show a heel click at the end. Nice selling and footwork on play-action passes from under center. Throws accurately while rolling to his right. Gets the ball out quickly in the short passing game.

Brosmer makes some impressive anticipation throws on tape. Flashes the ability to look off defenders. Has a smooth, easy throwing motion with a high release point. Overall arm strength is impressive; good enough to get velocity on throws out toward the sidelines. Has the confidence to test tighter windows.

Throws a catchable ball with a tight spiral and nice touch; knows how to modify his throws as appropriate. A pretty accurate thrower over the middle of the field, especially on shorter throws like stick concepts. Gets good air/arc under his deep shots.

Flashes the ability to climb the pocket and buy time against pressure. Does a nice job of keeping his eyes downfield when rushers are bearing down on him. Has been effective on quarterback sneaks in short-yardage situations.

Negatives

Will be a 24-year-old rookie after spending six years in school, only one of which came against a high level of competition. Some tendency to stare down targets. Inconsistent ball placement, mostly on further throws. Will sail, spray or bounce some passes.

Some of Brosmer’s catchable throws forced adjustments, limiting yards after the catch. Inconsistent weight transfer at times. Drifts backward against edge pressure at times. Will sometimes get himself into trouble in other ways.

Not a very athletic passer. Struggles to escape/run away from pressure. Has had some issues with fumbles in the past. A torn ACL from 2021 will require further medical investigation.

Summary

An efficient quarterback with a nice, smooth throwing motion, solid arm talent and effective decision-making who comes from a more pro-style offense than many of his peers in the class.

Brosmer should be able to operate an offense based on play-action and quick, rhythm-based throws, primarily over the middle of the field, but has to improve his weight transfer and pocket movement. Lacks dynamic athleticism. Looks like a relatively pro-ready mid-to-late-round option.

Shedeur Sanders (QB – Colorado)

A confident rhythm-based passer who works through progressions, makes pretty good decisions with the football and throws with impressive accuracy/placement. At his best, pulls the trigger early, puts the ball right on his target and works his way down the field methodically through a series of short and intermediate throws over the middle of the field.

However, Sadners can sometimes be too slow to get the ball out, can’t consistently escape from pressure when he’s being pursued and his overall arm talent is closer to adequate. Could draw a wide range of evaluations, as he’s not a perfect fit for every scheme, but still looks to be in the conversation for the first overall pick. He should easily be one of the first two or three passers off the board.

Cam Ward (QB – Miami)

A highly productive five-year starter who made major strides this past season after arriving at Miami. Ward plays with impressive composure, shows the ability to work through full-field reads and has solid arm talent and accuracy. Is capable of escaping from pressure and making the occasional splash play. At the same time, there are some risky elements to his game, which often come as a result of trying to do too much, leading to dangerous throws, interceptions or fumbles.

Consequently, how willing teams are to tolerate that risk to reap the rewards of his playmaking skills will be interesting to monitor. Either way, Ward is among the candidates to go first overall and should be one of the first couple of quarterbacks off the board.

Jalen Milroe (Alabama)

One of the most physically and athletically gifted dual-threat quarterback prospects you’ll see, with plenty of arm strength and elite speed, explosiveness and power as a runner who has some work to do on his game. To reach his sky-high potential he needs to show more consistent weight transfer on his throws, increased touch underneath, slightly faster processing and improved play under pressure.

However, those types of issues could be remedied with experience and coaching, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a patient and somewhat risk-tolerant team take a shot on him in the first round.
