2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Kobe Hudson

Kobe Hudson (WR – Central Florida)

6-foot-1 | 200 Pounds

Background

Kobe Hudson switched from receiver to quarterback as a junior in high school. Was a four-star receiver recruit who originally attended Auburn, where he played sparingly in 2020 (seven catches) before playing in the slot in 2020 and catching 44-580-4 (13.2). He then transferred to UCF. With the Knights, Hudson had a 39-641-7 (16.4) line as an inside-outside option in 2022. Became much more of an outside receiver in 2023, catching 44-900-8 (20.5) and 47-770-4 (16.4) this past year.

Positives

Hudson is a relatively thickly built four-year producer between two programs, with extensive experience both outside and inside, at about a 60-40 career split. Runs routes to all three levels of the field, but is primarily a deep threat, running sluggos, posts, back-shoulders, fades and other routes, which can produce splash plays down the field.

Hudson has nice, simple releases at the line of scrimmage against press; looks decisive and efficient with his footwork. Does a nice job of attacking an opponent’s leverage. Shows good contact balance to stay on track when dealing with physical opponents. Snaps off most routes crisply at the stem. Knows how to vary his tempos to keep opponents off-balance. Has some build-up speed and technique/route-running allows him to stack some corners early in the play.

Shows some relatively subtle selling on double moves. Tracks the ball well over his shoulder down the sidelines and on fade routes. Shows pretty good body control to adjust to those. Concentration and toughness are good to come down with some tough catches in traffic. His functional strength is good and flashes some physicality as a stalker.

Negatives

Hudson has never been the most high-volume or high-percentage option. Despite his gaudy yards-per-catch totals, he is not the most explosive player. Usually runs pretty crisp routes, but doesn’t have a ton of hip sink. Could be more consistent about leaning into defenders before breaking. Some balance issues occasionally crop up on his breaks. There’s not a ton of attention to detail at the end of some of his routes (curls, etc.)

Could be more consistent about working back to the football, rather than waiting for it to reach him. Has had issues with drops, averaging six per year over the past four years. Doesn’t seem to have the most natural feel, with some double catches and iffy technique at times. Not the most dynamic receiver after the catch in terms of making opponents miss.

Summary

A thickly-built receiver with inside/outside versatility, Is an effective route-runner, getting off the line well against press coverage, winning the desired leverage and stacking cornerbacks pretty consistently despite lacking elite speed.

At this point, his major problem is dropped passes, with some plays where he doesn’t seem like the most natural receiver. Still looks like he warrants a mid-to-late-round shot. Adside from that, he looks like a relatively polished prospect.

Tetairoa McMillan (Arizona)

A very big, smooth, savvy receiver with an incredible catch radius and a graceful game, McMillan established himself as one of the best wide receivers in college football over the past two seasons. May never be the fastest or most explosive wide receiver, but has a great understanding of how to use tempo, nuance and technique to create separation.

Is capable of coming down with contested catches even in tight coverage, with rare size that makes him a mismatch for most cornerbacks. May not have quite the same strength and physicality as Mike Evans did coming out, but is a similar prospect and should go similarly high in the first round, likely within the first five or 10 picks.

Projection: Round 1

Luther Burden III (Missouri)

A dynamic player with the ball in his hands, Burden’s combination of speed, quickness, vision, balance and physicality led the Tigers to scheme up ways to get him the ball, whether on underneath throws, sweeps, screens or otherwise. He also offers some impressive traits as a receiver, with good stop-start quickness to create separation, impressive tracking and body control and a strong pair of hands.

As it currently stands, he doesn’t have a ton of recent experience playing outside and will need to continue diversifying his route tree and polishing his route-running technique, but that doesn’t look like it will stop him from being a first-round pick.

Projection: Round 1

Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State)

Another highly-polished Buckeyes receiver prospect, Egbuka’s excellent combination of acceleration, quickness, route-running savvy, hands and toughness should make him a highly reliable pro receiver.

Likely would have been a first-round pick last year had he stayed healthy. Coming back to put together the season he did gives him a very good chance of going there this year if everything checks out medically during the pre-draft process. A nice reliable, pro-ready big slot option.

Projection: Round 1
