2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt (OT – Connecticut)
6-foot-8 | 305 Pounds
Background
Chase Lundt was a two-star recruit who redshirted in 2019. He then saw Connecticut’s 2020 season canceled. Stepped into the starting right tackle role the following year and has held it for the past four seasons, allowing one, three, two and zero sacks from 2021-2024. Totaled 48 starts during that span.
Positives
One of the most experienced blockers you’ll see, Lundt has a favorable developmental trajectory of pretty significant year-on-year improvements. Massive tackle who has added 40 pounds of bulk in school. One of the rangiest tackles you’re likely to see, with very good quickness and smooth movement skills; looks very comfortable getting out in space and executing difficult zone-blocking concepts.
Lundt shows a good natural understanding of positioning to wall off opponents, especially because his natural quickness and agility allow him to cross a defender’s face and seal them away from the ball-carrier. Works hard to stay with his man through the whistle and appears to have pretty good grip strength. Keeps his feet churning after contact. Looks relaxed and composed in pass protection.
Has nice-looking pass sets, with a sufficiently wide base, good knee bend, good hand placement and a straight back. Shows impressive lateral agility with his kick slide to protect the edge against speed. Does a good job of replicating his technique on a snap-to-snap basis. Pivots back inside smoothly to cut off counters. Can place and reset his hands pretty accurately. Flashes the ability to finish off defenders who lose their balance trying to turn the corner. His range carries over into the screen game. Was never a particularly penalty-prone player and has further cut them down to two in each of the past two seasons.
Negatives
Will be making a pretty significant leap up in terms of the level of competition he’s playing. All but a few of Lundt’s career snaps came at right tackle. Functional strength is still a work in progress and he may struggle to generate consistent movement in the run game, especially because his pad level tends to be naturally high.
Lundt brings a more workmanlike than nasty temperament to the game. Can occasionally come in a little bit too hot in space, preventing him from lining up opponents as consistently as he’d like. Can be a bit of a catch-and-ride type. Would like to see him fire out his punch more proactively. Has added a lot of bulk in school, but doesn’t always drop the earliest anchor against power-based rushers.
Summary
A very intriguing developmental prospect who has a huge frame, some of the most impressive range and athleticism in the class, polished pass sets and a favorable developmental trajectory. Although Lundt is not the most physically dominant player in the class, his ability to execute zone-blocking concepts in the run game and mirror in the passing game gives him considerable upside, potentially as a left tackle.
Given the premium placed on tackle play, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Lundt sneak into the second day, almost certainly to a team that is primarily zone-based.
Projection: Round 3/Round 4
