2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Charles Grant
Charles Grant (OT – William & Mary)
6-foot-4 | 300 Pounds
Background
Charles Grant played eight snaps in 2020. He started at left tackle for five out of six games played the following year. Started 13, 11 and 12 games there over the last three seasons, respectively, to finish his collegiate career with 41 starts. Allowed four sacks (one in 2021, one in 2023, two in 2024.)
Positives
Highly experienced left tackle with over 40 starts to his name. Carries his weight well with arms that are reportedly over 35.5″ in length. Grant’s athleticism is excellent and the team asked him to execute some very challenging assignments. A silky-smooth mover who looks good in space when executing the team’s zone-heavy run concepts.
Grant has plenty of lateral quickness to pull across the formation on power concepts. Short-area movement skills allow him to reach the second level after helping to double-team a defender at the line. Shows a good understanding of positioning and the ability to cross a defender’s face and seal them off from the play direction.
His range in the screen game is excellent and Grant does a nice job of lining up defenders in space. Plays within his frame and avoids lunging or waist-bending. Has some pop in his hands to jolt defenders on contact. Can generate torque with his upper body. Very difficult to beat with speed. Mirrors easily and does a nice job of pivoting when needed. Active with his punch. Does a nice job of re-setting and using his length to keep opponents out of his frame. Drops a surprisingly early anchor against power for a lineman whose weight is a little bit lower than you’d like.
Negatives
Grant will be making a big leap up in competition. Height is on the lower end of what teams look for in an offensive tackle. Grant’s pad level can get a little bit high at times. Should win the leverage battle more consistently than he does as a smaller tackle. Flashes nastiness, but is more of a finesse blocker overall. Would like to see him drive his feet more consistently after contact to generate movement in a phone booth.
Would like to see his hands tighter and higher in his pass sets. Could do a better job of keeping his penalties under control, mostly in terms of hand placement. Committed 19 penalties over the past four seasons, seven of which came in 2024. Doesn’t have any snaps at positions other than left tackle.
Summary
One of the most intriguing tackle prospects in the class, he has one of the most impressive combinations of length and athleticism you’re likely to see from a small school.
Grant may not be the tallest or most physically dominant blocker, but he can execute so many difficult assignments in the run game and protects the edge very well in pass protection.
Looks like a potential zone-blocking left tackle, but could get some consideration elsewhere along the line as well. Grant should come off the board within the first 75 picks or so.
Projection: Round 2/Round 3
