2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Benjamin Morrison
Benjamin Morrison (CB – Notre Dame)
6-foot-0 | 190 Pounds
Background
Benjamin Morrison was a four-star recruit whose father Darryl Morrison was a safety and sixth-round pick back in 1993. Started nine out of 13 games played as a freshman, finishing with 33 tackles, six interceptions and four breakups.
Became a full-time starter the following season and finished with 31 tackles, three interceptions and 10 breakups. His 2024 campaign ended after just six games due to a season-ending hip injury; ended up with 20 tackles and four breakups on the year.
Positives
A productive three-year starter for a major program. Well-built boundary corner that has the size to stick on the outside at the next level. Played a lot of man coverage for the Irish, showing good quickness to stick with releases. A patient player who shows good route anticipation and doesn’t fall for window-dressing at the line. Morrison does a nice job of using his lateral quickness to squeeze inside releases and feels routes well with his hands to stay connected and provide tight coverage through the stem.
Good physicality and hand use to avoid getting pushed off of his spot at the stem. Often plays as the boundary corner on the short side of the field. Uses the sideline to his advantage to smother outside releases on routes down the sidelines. When turning and running with opposing receivers, does a nice job of getting his head around early to locate and break up throws. Doesn’t backpedal a ton, but shows clean footwork and good balance when doing so, with clean transitions to click and close on underneath routes.
Morrison’s closing burst to get in-phase when playing off-coverage against in-breaking routes is impressive. Has the awareness to recognize and close on screens from zone ccoverage. Length and awareness allowed him to make plays on the ball. Established himself as one of college football’s best playmakers over the first two years of his collegiate career, with aggressiveness at the catch point, good body control and soft hands. Willing and tough in run support.
Negatives
Season-ending hip injury prevented Morrison from having the 2024 campaign he was hoping for. Will require further medical investigation during the pre-draft process. Played primarily man coverage, so teams looking for zone coverage options don’t have as much film to study.
Morrison didn’t shadow top receivers during the games reviewed, staying on the short side of the field. Physical player, but had some issues with missed tackles at times. Was called for four penalties in 2022 and six in 2023 (just one in his shortened 2024 season.)
Summary
An excellent cornerback who offers the total package as a boundary-side man-coverage corner. Offers solid size and athleticism, with impressive patience, instincts, awareness and ball skills — traits that could easily make him a No. 1 corner at the next level sooner rather than later.
The only complicating factor is the hip injury he sustained midway through the 2024 season and whether/how that could impact his game and durability going forward. If teams feel comfortable with Morrison’s medicals, he looks like an easy first-round pick but could slip to the second if there are any concerns there.
Projection: Round 1
