NHL DFS Lineup Picks & Advice: Tuesday (1/28)

NHL DFS Lineup Picks & Advice: Tuesday (1/28)

The NHL takes center stage tonight, as the league rolls out a thrilling eight-game schedule. I’m heading the DFS route to get some skin in the game, and below I’ve listed the nine-man lineup that I’ve locked in for tonight’s slate. This roster is playable in DraftKings’ classic $50,000 salary format, but I’ve also listed each player’s price at FanDuel’s $55,000 salary equivalent.

Today’s NHL DFS Picks & Advice

The lineup below is based on DraftKings, but FanDuel prices are also listed.

C1: Anthony Cirelli (C – TB) ($5,800 DK, $7,200 FD)

Let’s start things off in Tampa, where the Lightning host the lowly Blackhawks. I’ll lock in Anthony Cirelli, who is currently the first-line center between Jake Guentzel and Nikita Kucherov. Cirelli is sixth on the team in scoring (18G, 20A), and he’s also averaging 2.1 SOG/G this season. I love this matchup against Chicago, who has fallen to 28th in GAA (3.12) and 23rd in SV% (.890). Cirelli should get a few chances to contribute tonight on home ice against this inferior opponent.

C2: Pavel Zacha (C – BOS) ($4,900 DK, $5,600 FD)

I’m never rushing to lock in a member of the Bruins offense, but considering Pavel Zacha is playing with David Pastrnak on the top line, I think it’s worth a flier. Zacha is third on the roster in scoring (11G, 18A), and has eight points (2G, 6A) over his last six outings. Zacha and this Boston offense could have a big night, as they take on a Buffalo defense that’s allowing 4.1 goals per game during their current 2-5-0 stretch of play.

W1: Gabriel Vilardi (C – WPG) ($6,000 DK, $7,000 FD)

I’ll ride with Winnipeg’s Gabriel Vilardi as my top winger tonight. The first-line winger is averaging just under a point-per-game pace, as he has 47 points (22G, 25A) across 51 games. This is all about the matchup, as the Jets take on a Canadiens side that’s 30th in high-danger shots against (211), 29th in GAA (3.16) and 26th in SV% (.888).

W2: Artturi Lehkonen (LW – COL) ($5,000 DK, $6,700 FD)

With Mikko Rantanen out of the picture in Colorado, someone has to pick up the scoring slack. That could be Artturi Lehkonen, who has been productive with 28 points (20G, 8A) across 39 games. Among the current players on the roster, his 20 tallies are the most on the team. Lehkonen is slotting in on the team’s top power play, and they’ll take on an Islanders PK that’s dead last in the NHL at 68.32%. The Avs could do some damage tonight on Long Island, and I expect Lehkonen to get in on the action.

W3: Aliaksei Protas (C – WSH) ($4,400 DK, $6,400 FD)

Washington’s Aliaksei Protas has cemented himself as a top-six forward in this league. The second-line winger is currently second on the roster in scoring (41 points), and his 20 goals are second to only Alex Ovechkin‘s 22 on the team. Protas is riding a four-game point streak, where he’s racked up two goals and three helpers during the stretch. He’ll be looking to score on a Calgary defense that’s 16th in expected GAA per 60 minutes (2.39) during 5-on-5 play. Overall, they’re 17th in GAA (2.81) and 12th in SV% (.899). I like this price on the emerging forward.

D1: Josh Morrissey (D – WPG) ($6,300 DK, $6,600 FD)

My other Jets player tonight is their top defenseman, Josh Morrissey. The d-man is fifth on the team in scoring (42 points), and his 37 assists are the 16th-most in the NHL. Morrissey is still walking the blue line on the top power-play unit, which is cashing at 33.33% (first). Morrissey is also averaging 2.1 SOG/G and 1.5 blocked shots per contest. All of the anti-Montreal metrics from the Vilardi section apply here as well, so Morrissey should be set to rack up the fantasy points tonight.

D2: Seth Jones (D – CHI) ($4,500 DK, $6,400 FD)

At this price of just $4,500, I think it’s worth a flier on Chicago’s Seth Jones. Jones has played in just 39 games this season, but he has a respectable five goals and 16 assists. He’s riding a five-game point streak, where he’s added two goals and five apples during the stretch. Throughout the five-game sample size, Jones is also averaging 2.4 SOG/G. He’s working the blue line on Chicago’s top power play, which is surprisingly the ninth-best unit in the NHL at 23.73%. Let’s take a shot with Jones tonight as the Hawks take on the Lightning in the Bay.

G: Logan Thompson (G – WSH) ($8,300 DK, $8,400 FD)

Washington just inked Logan Thompson to a six-year, $35.1 million contract on Monday night, and I’ll go ahead and play him in my lineup tonight. Thompson has been a beast this season, going 22-2-3 (third-most wins) with a 2.09 GAA (second) and .925 SV% (third). If Connor Hellebuyck wasn’t around, Thompson would probably be the frontrunner for the Vezina Trophy. Thompson and the Caps take on a Flames offense that’s 25th in scoring (2.7 GPG), 19th in high-danger shots (168), and 30th in shooting% (9.27%).

UTIL: Matt Duchene (C – DAL) ($4,800 DK, $6,800 FD)

I’ll round things out with Dallas’ Matt Duchene. This feels like great value considering Duchene is the Stars’ top scorer this season with 47 points (18G, 29A). Only Roope Hintz (20G) has more goals than the veteran centerman. The Stars take on a Golden Knights club that’s 12th in GAA (2.64), and Duchene just logged two assists against them in a 4-3 win on Friday night.
