2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo (RB – Arizona State)
5-foot-11 | 215 Pounds
Background
Cam Skattebo originally attended Sacramento State, having received no other Division I offers. He started four out of 11 games as a freshman there, finishing with a 57-520-6 (9.1) line. Put together a dominant sophomore season as a full-time starter before entering the portal with 195-1,372-7 (7.0) rushing and 31-371-3 (12.0) receiving lines.
At Arizona State, Skattebo started seven out of 12 games in 2023, with 164-783-9 (4.8) on the ground and 24-286-1 receiving. Had a monster 2024 campaign with 293-1,711-21 (5.8) rushing and 45-605-3 (13.4) receiving lines.
Positives
Made a smooth transition to the Sun Devils and put himself on the map in 2024 with a huge year as the team’s bell-cow back in their balanced offense. A big, thickly built runner who likes contact and punishing defenders, bringing a ton of energy to the team and establishing a physical tone. Not just or perhaps even primarily a battering ram; also shows the patience to follow blocks and let the hole emerge. Navigates congestion well, with impressive lateral agility. Runs with a low pad level and gets behind them into contact to win the leverage battle.
Skattebo showed nice vision/decision-making to recognize cutback lanes or chances to bounce attempts outside. Smooth runner who was able to cruise to the edge in school and assert his will against opposing defensive backs near the boundary. Very good flexibility allows him to bend his runs back inside. Contact balance is excellent, and likely his most impressive trait overall. Very good finisher to churn his legs and push the pile.
Was highly effective near the goal line and has the ideal temperament and style for that role at the next level. Has a reliable pair of hands and became a prominent part of the team’s passing game this past season; not purely a safety valve, having been lined up as a receiver at times to get him the ball against second-level defenders. Frame and toughness are ideal for a pass protector.
Negatives
Slightly older than your typical prospect and will be 23 on draft day. Skattebo accumulated a decent amount of tread in school. His physical and competitive style could raise long-term durability concerns. Doesn’t have a ton of burst or long speed; could struggle to consistently win the edge at the next level and will probably end up being more of a chunk play generator than a home-run hitter.
Has some tendencies to play with a lack of discipline, with some inefficient movements. Ball security isn’t bad, but hasn’t been quite as good as many of the other top prospects, with 10 career fumbles on 711 rushing attempts. Was retained in blitz pickup more often at Sacramento State, but wasn’t asked to do that very much by the Sun Devils.
Summary
Skattebo was one of the most productive and exciting players in college football this past season. He combined a natural feel for the position, smooth running skills, a tough and physical temperament and exceptional contact balance, culminating in well over 2,000 total yards on the season.
There’s not a whole lot to critique about his game, besides his lack of ideal explosiveness and long speed. Otherwise, Skattebo has the look of a potential every-down back in the league or at least the power back in a one-two punch. Could get some second-day looks.

Jeanty proved he’s the total package this past season, with an unbelievable combination of vision, patience, creativity, agility, power, balance and speed that nearly allowed him to break Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record.
Can fit in any offensive scheme, but might be best in a scheme that runs a relatively high amount of outside zone to maximize his home-run hitting ability. After a year in which he dazzled viewers with a nonstop succession of dominant highlights, Jeanty should be a lock for the first round, potentially going in the top half of the frame. Projects as a long-term, every-down feature back who should make an immediate impact.

A fast, agile back with good burst and excellent open-field running skills, Neal functioned as a workhorse for the Jayhawks but might be more of a change-of-pace back at the next level, as he may struggle to grind out tough yardage between the tackles as a pro.
Neal’s snaps were relatively balanced throughout his career (more gap until this past season, then a little bit more zone), but might be better suited to a zone-blocking scheme where he’s able to stretch defenses out and cut upfield when he sees daylight. Probably more of a mid-round option.
